kris austen radcliffeAs a child, Kris took down a pack of hungry wolves with only a hardcover copy of The Dragonriders of Pern and a sharpened toothbrush. That fateful day set her on a path traversing many storytelling worlds—dabbles in film and comic books, time as a talent agent and a textbook photo coordinator, and a foray into nonfiction. After co-authoring Mind Shapes: Understanding the Differences in Thinking and Communication, Kris returned to academia. But she craved narrative and a richly-textured world of Fates, Shifters, Burners, and Dragons—and unexpected, true love.

Kris lives in Minnesota with her husband, two daughters, an Handsome Cat, and an entire menagerie of suburban wildlife bent on destroying her house. That battered-but-true copy of “Dragonriders”? She found it yesterday. It’s time to pay a visit to the woodpeckers.

But he’s found a new way:  a modern life with his beloved Rysa.  He won’t give her up.  Not because of family strife.  Not because of the issues twisting her life into a raging cyclone.  And definitely not because of war—until a new group of Shifters rain death onto everyone he loves.

Every Shifter understands fury.  Now they learn rupture.

Review

Flux of Skin is a primal and sensual claiming of your senses. The connection between Rysa and Ladon is so intense. This is the second installment in the series and picks up right where Games of Fate left off. Ladon has watched so many of his lovers die, but he is determined not to let that happen to Rysa. He will burn down the world to find her. She is his. His mate. His love.

Rysa is a fierce women who knows what she wants and she wants Ladon more than she has wanted anything in her life. When she is taken by the shifters she is afraid for herself, but more so for Ladon. He will come for her, he will claim her mark her, and possess her. Woe to the man, shifter, fates, or burner that stands in his way.

Right from the start you are thrown into the heart of the action. Ladon’s desperation, rage, and helplessness radiates from the page and swamps the reader with so many emotions. You feel like you are fighting beside Ladon and his Dragon to rescue Lysa.

I devoured this story in one and cannot wait to see what happens next! This is a riveting and captivating story that will capture you heart and soul.

Fire by T.G. Ayer (A Hand of Kali #1)

Author Spotlight

TEEI have been a writer from the time I was old enough to recognize that reading was a doorway into my imagination. Poetry was my first foray into the art of the written word. Books were my best friends, my escape, my haven. I am essentially a recluse but this part of my personality is impossible to practice given I have two teenage daughters, who are actually my friends, my tea-makers, my confidantes… I am blessed with a husband who has left me for golf. It’s a fair trade as I have left him for writing. We are both passionate supporters of each other’s loves – it works wonderfully…

My heart is currently broken in two. One half resides in South Africa where my old roots still remain, and my heart still longs for the endless beaches and the smell of moist soil after a summer downpour. My love for Ma Afrika will never fade. The other half of me has been transplanted to the Land of the Long White Cloud. The land of the Taniwha, beautiful Maraes, and volcanoes. The land of green, pure beauty that truly inspires. And because I am so torn between these two lands – I shall forever remain cross-eyed.

Review

Fire is a fast paced thrill ride! From the very first page you are drawn into Maya’s world. A world were gods are real, hellhound’s are annoying, demons are not in short supply, and wielding fire is not a parlor trick!

Maya and Nik can’t stay away from each other, even when they are forbidden to be together. You cannot help who you love, even if loving them is bad for your health!

Fire is a fantastic start to a new series. I look forward to seeing Maya develop her powers and to see her and Nik’s relationship progress. Get drawn into a world where anything is possible!

Excerpt

Fear spun Maya around on stricken feet. To defend her back perhaps. She just felt less vulnerable facing her attacker, where she could see his next move. He barreled straight at her. And for all her training in martial arts, she did the one thing her dad always said never to do. She ducked her head and hid her face with her hands. Hands out, as if she could fend off this vicious attacker merely with the soft skin of her palms.

Maya felt the heat before she saw it.

Byron was on fire. A living column of shimmering orange flames. She couldn’t breathe. Was afraid to breathe. How did that happen? She glanced around the bathroom as panic filled her veins, her fear taking on a whole new level of hysteria. She had to put the fire out.

She turned to the faucet to fill her hands with water. And froze. In the mirror she saw the burning reflection of Byron disappear. Byron was there one moment and gone the next. Only a few burnt shards of fabric left to say he was ever there. But she remembered the last thing she’d seen before Byron became nothing: brilliant blue eyes turning a frighteningly blood-red.

And Nik, holding the doorknob, staring at the empty space on the floor behind her.

Excerpt

Skye’s lips parted as he moved closer. The air conditioner on his damp skin didn’t cool his suddenly heated skin.

She edged backward.

He inched forward.

“Okay, Bishop.” The ice-cubes rattled in her glass as she set it on the counter with a snap. “That’s close enough.”

“Why? Am I getting to you?”

“Of course not.”

He stroked a knuckle along the tender skin below her ear. “Then why is your pulse fluttering like a terrified mouse?”

“That must be your imagination.” Her throat flexed as she swallowed, but she didn’t step away. Her nipples pressed against the thin cotton of her shirt, tempting him to cup and caress both breasts until they tightened even more beneath his touch.

“Really?”

She raised her hand as if to pull his away, but he caught her wrist and brought her palm to his mouth. He licked the fleshy part below her index finger, inhaling her distinct lavender and feminine scent. At her indrawn breath, doubts of her lack of sexual interest in him scattered. David smiled against her hand with satisfaction.

Soon. If not tonight, there’d be another time when he’d have her spilling her hidden agenda from between those delectable lips.

He lifted his thumb from her inner wrist and brushed his mouth over her rapid pulse. He tasted salt and a possibility of something more. From above her hand, he watched for a reaction as he murmured against the warmth of her skin, “What is it about you that keeps me off balance and ties me in knots? You don’t know how much I want to pull off your clothes and take you here on the floor.”

Skye’s chest rose and fell in quick succession as the color of delicate rose bloomed into her cheeks and melded with the dusting of her freckles. The desire that flared into her eyes hit him in the gut.

David wanted her, wanted her more than he could remember wanting a woman.

His grip on her wrist tightened. He wrapped his free arm around her waist and applied pressure to the small of her back until her body grazed his. The cool cotton of her shirt and shorts brushed against his bare stomach and legs.

He released her wrist and caught her chin between a finger and thumb, urging her to look up and meet the hunger he knew burned in his eyes. “I think you like being this close.”

He didn’t wait for an answer. Hell, he knew, she’d come up with an argument if he gave her more than a second. He lowered his head, and the touch of her lips dragged a rattling sigh from his own. The taste of her, warm, female and alluring urged him to take more than a fleeting kiss. He held off. Savoring the moment. The anticipation.

Excerpt

Luggage backs up, causing one bag to fall off the machine. Angry travelers glare at me, as if I’ve made it my mission in life to make them late. Only one person doesn’t make me feel like a total jerk. He looks like a cowboy with his wide-brimmed brown leather hat, pointy boots and belt buckle. I suck in a breath when we make eye contact, his blue eyes two shades darker than mine. This is the kind of man writers dedicate romance novels to. Broad chested with ropes of muscles under his shirt, strength earned from real work not a gym, skin sun-kissed and glowing. He smiles at me and my knees go weak.

Le sigh.

Feeling the heat rush to my face, I nod my head in my most regal fashion and turn away as the scrawny 20-something guy working behind the x-ray machine asks me to follow him so he can inspect my bag.

He steps to the side and opens my red carry-on, shuffling through my iPad, a change of clothes and other staples I was told to always carry with me in case my luggage was ever lost. There are perks to being one of the youngest in a family of world travelers.

My jaw drops when he pulls out a gallon sized plastic baggie and dumps the contents—items I’ve never seen before in my life—onto the counter. Holding up a pair of red G-String panties with a matching bra, if that slip of silk can be called a bra, and a handful of—oh my God—condoms?

He smirks at me and reads aloud the note that’s in the baggie. “Winter, Have some fun this summer. Here’s a starter sex kit to help you out. All my love, your favorite cousin, Daring.”

I want to die.

I want the floor to open up and swallow me, or lightning to strike me dead.

I want them to arrest me, just so I can get away from the dozens of eyes taking in my humiliation.

I fight the urge to tell them I have a bomb, or maybe that I am the bomb. Or to tell them I’m a drug mule. Anything to divert attention from the most embarrassing moment of my entire life.

And then I remember the hot cowboy.

Who’s standing behind me.

Who heard and saw everything.

My cheeks, I can already feel, are a flaming red. I probably look like my head is about to explode. I wish it would, so I won’t have to live in this moment any longer.

An older woman, probably the supervisor, grabs the note and the panties from the jerk staring at me. “I think you’ve sufficiently searched this bag.” She nods sympathetically at me and shoves Daring’s gift back under my clothes, zipping my suitcase shut. “Sorry for the inconvenience, ma’am. You can take your belongings and head to your gate now.”
