Jill Author ShotI could write this in the third person. I could tell you what I like, where I was born, and what my favorite things are.

\But instead, I’ll say I don’t want to write like everyone else. I don’t want to craft stories you’ve read a thousand times before. I want my novels to be a cinematic experience, blending themes, genres, and situations unlike any you’ve ever read.
I want to break the rules. I want you to break out in a cold sweat as you read my books out of fear, love, and excitement. I want my books to be an experience. When you finish, I want you to feel something. Good or bad.

If you do, then I’ll have succeeded. If not, I’ll keep trying.

YA Sci-Fi

Synopsis

15_ebookI have 15 minutes to save my mother’s life….

15 minutes is all the Rewind Agency gives you in the past, but for Lara Crane it’s enough time to race through the city, find her mother, and stop her from being killed in a mugging that happened over ten years ago.

But that’s not how it happened. The story she’s been told all her life is a lie and when Lara takes a bullet meant for her mother, her future changes forever.

The love of her life acts like a stranger. Her simple life is replaced with a giant house, glamorous clothes and a new boyfriend.

Except someone knows her secret. And he will try to stop her at every turn as she races against the clock to unravel a dangerous conspiracy.

15 Minutes is an edgy high octane YA thriller that can be described as Back to the Future meets Inception where the people Lara trusts change in an instant. She is in a timeline she doesn’t understand, and is about to make one fatal mistake as she faces an enemy so familiar, he’s family.

Review

15 Minutes is a thrilling and suspenseful ride that takes the reader back in time and to an alternate future. Lara was told when she “jumped” that she would not be able to interact. She would appear almost as if she was a ghost. Boy were they wrong. Not only can she interact, but she has changed the past and remolded the future. She does not know who is who and if she can trust the new people in her life. Lara must find a way to set things right before it is too late.

Lara is an independent and fierce character. She is young and is still learning, but she is not afraid to get things done. From the first page until the last my eyes were glued to the pages. I just could not put it down. The stress of not knowing what was going to happening had me burning the midnight oil to reach the end…..then I realize, I need book 2!!!! This is a must  read that will thrill you, confound you, and make you ask questions that may not have answers!

Review

Nomad is an exciting new Dystopian series that you grab you from the first page! Raven is a fierce heroine that is scary in her determination to save the future from the rule of an evil dictator. Raven has always rebelled against the government. She fights for the freedom of herself and others like her. America used to be a democracy where people where allowed to choose, now it is a prison without choices or individuality. When Raven discovers the time travel device she travels back to 2013 so she can end the future dictator before he takes power.

All I can say is, WOW! This is a consuming story that draws you in and has you fighting side by side in the rebellion with Raven and traveling back in time to save the future of America. This story kept me on the edge of my sit the entire time! I was constantly yelling at the book trying to tell Raven to watch her back, to kick some ass, and to watch out! The parallels in this book to present day economic and political issues make this story an eerie premonition of how things could develop if we do not take action!

You will devour this book in one night and with righteous angry rise up to demand more of Raven’s story! A must read that will make you a believer!

Excerpt

Her hands were red with blood, but the cold rain washed it away. Whose blood? She couldn’t remember.

She became aware of pain throughout her body. Freezing water and tiny hailstones lashed her face as she stumbled through a storm. Dying thunder echoed in her ears, and crackles of lightning faded in the night around her.

A pair of lights rushed toward her through the darkness, but her brain couldn’t interpret what her eyes saw. A long screech ripped through her ears, followed by shrill bleats.

Car horns, she realized as the lights loomed closer. Through her thick, fuzzy brain, it dawned on her that she was staggering along a multi-lane road, seconds away from getting splattered across the oncoming grill of an eighteen-wheeled truck.

She discerned a dark space off to her left and moved into it, stepping from hard pavement into squishy wet earth. The truck that had nearly killed her squealed past as the driver braked, dousing her with a wave of cold mud. Horns blew at the stopped truck blocking up the left lane.

She rubbed her eyes and tried to grasp her surroundings—a grass median dividing an interstate highway, up to her ankles in frigid mud.

She couldn’t remember where she was, or how she’d come to be there. After a moment’s reflection, she realized she wasn’t entirely sure who she was, either.

Raven, she remembered. She clung to that word like a lifeline. My name is Raven. It is now, anyway. She’d once had a different name, but that original, scribbled-on-the-birth-certificate name no longer mattered.

She wore black boots and a long black jacket. A backpack weighed down her shoulders, but she didn’t know what it contained. She trudged on weak, trembling legs toward an overpass bridge ahead. Once she was out of the downpour, she could gather her brains and figure things out. She didn’t seem to be bleeding, so the blood on her hands must not have been her own.

“Hey! Hey there, girl! You all right?” shouted the truck driver who had almost flattened her. More cars honked and swerved to avoid crashing into the back of his trailer, which was decorated with puffy pink sheep.

Raven squinted up at him. The man was in his forties, severely overweight, with a handlebar mustache and scratchy, graying beard stubble. His blue and white cap read: MoonPie: The Original Marshmallow Sandwich!

“I’m fine!” she shouted through the downpour. “Keep going!”

“You got a car?” he asked.

“No,” she told him. “I don’t think so.”

“Where you headed?”

“I don’t know.”

“The troopers gonna lock you up if they see you! You drunk or what?”

“I don’t think so.” She raised a hand to her mouth to check her breath. Not drunk.

The trucker eyed her up and down, a soaking wet girl stumbling along the interstate alone at night, and then he swung open the passenger door.

“Best climb on up in here with me,” he said. “Gonna freeze your pants off out there.”

Raven looked at the gruff, obese man and the warm, sheltered transport he was offering, and then at the overpass bridge in the distance. Her legs were rubbery. She might not make it to the overpass before she collapsed.

“Lady, I got to get moving,” he said. “You want a ride to the exit or what?”

“Yeah,” Raven said. She had no reason to trust him, but he seemed soft-bodied and slow. If he tried to get rough, she would break his wrists. Even in her current state, she knew she could take him if he pushed her to it.

Raven stumbled around to the passenger side and struggled to climb with her weakened limbs until he took her arms and pulled her up.

“Thanks,” she whispered, still shivering. She was almost too weak to pull the door closed.

“Just glad you ain’t tore in half.” He settled back into the driver’s seat, and it groaned under his weight. “You musta been one, two, three, four inches from me. Or less. Just popped up outta nowhere when that lightning hit.” He drove cautiously through the storm. “Didn’t seem like no normal lightning, you ask me. What was you doing out there? That big flash hit the road, then you come stumbling out….Did the lightning get you?”

“I don’t know,” she said. The interior of the cab smelled like cigarette smoke and old hamburgers. A collage of small objects was glued to the dashboard—action figures, an old watch face, postcards, salt and pepper shakers. Hail clattered on the cab’s roof.

“You don’t know?” he asked.

“Sorry.” Raven shrugged off her backpack and set it on the floor between her wet boots. She wanted to see what was inside it, but not while he was watching.

“It’s Jebbie, by the way.” He offered his calloused hand, and she hesitated a moment before taking it. “Jebbie Walters. From Yazoo City, Mississippi. You got a name, darling?”

“Angela. That’s my name,” Raven said. She knew not to trust a stranger with data about herself. He might be the enemy, and she felt informants and spies were everywhere, looking to report those who resisted.

“Huh. Where you from, Angela?”

She tried to remember, but finally shrugged.

“You ain’t gotta tell me,” he said. “You going north? Cause that’s where I’m going, way up north of here. You might want to hop out quick if that ain’t your plan.”

“I’m not sure.”

“You ain’t sure about much of nothing, are you?”

“Not right now,” Raven said.

“I guess I ought to drop you up at the exit.”

“You can.” Raven shrugged. “I think I’m lost.”

He looked her over again. “Tell you what. About three, four, five miles from here’s a good spot, the Big Porcupine Travel Plaza. Got showers, motel rooms, an all-night-you-can-eat place. We could stop there, get you a place to sleep. Maybe in the morning you’ll start to remembering things. I figure you just need to sleep it off. You’re on drugs or something, ain’t you?”

“Maybe,” Raven said.

He laughed. “It’s okay by me. I don’t do drugs, myself. Just pills and booze. Well, you think about what you want to do.”

He turned up the radio, where a woman sang a slow, gentle song that Raven gradually recognized. Someone—her mother?—had once played it on the piano. It was an old song called “The Rose.”

“Uh, sorry.” Jebbie blushed pink and spun the radio knob. “I, uh, usually find a good honky-tonk or country gold station. Don’t know how my radio ended up on that soft-rock junk, or whatever that was. Yeah, here we go.” He found a song with a steel guitar and a man singing about his wife leaving him for his boss.

Raven looked at herself in the rain-streaked side mirror. She was about twenty years old, maybe nineteen. That felt right. Her black hair was pulled into a short ponytail with a rubber band. She wore all black: boots, fatigues, blouse, backpack, jacket. The knee-length jacket was made of a stretchy artificial material with a texture like a crocodile’s back. She felt a web of metallic fibers between the layers of leathery fabric. That’s armor, she realized, and she wondered why she might need armor. Her only jewelry was on her left wrist, a thin silver bracelet with a large moonstone.

She tried to reach back in time with her mind. She’d been stumbling along the highway. The moment before that: what? It was a solid blank slate, as though a giant magnet had wiped her brain clean. Perhaps the trucker was right, and she’d been struck by lightning.

Raven, she reminded herself. I know my name.

Soul Mates by Sandy Wolters + Giveaway

Soul Mates Banner 450 x 169

Author Spotlight

Sandy woltersI’ve been an avid reader for years. To my husband’s dismay, I have bookshelves full of books, rooms full of books, boxes full of books. My cars have books in them. I just can’t seem to get rid of them after I read them. You just never know when you will want to read it again, right? When my husband bought me a Kindle, it cut down on our need for storage, but it opened me up to books that I might never have experienced otherwise.

The biggest transition in my relationship with books occurred, however, when I, much to my surprise, became an author. I had started having dreams about people I didn’t know. I started looking forward to my dreams every night. Then I realized that I was daydreaming about these people as well. I’d just be sitting there, and these people and their antics would pop into my mind. Finally, I gave in and began writing their story down, something I had never dreamed of doing.

After I wrote my first book Maggie Mae, I had do idea what to do with it. After trying the traditional route for a little while, my husband pushed me in the direction of ebooks, and I’ve never looked back.

My books invariably feature strong women. My husband, Michael, and I have raised two strong daughters, Pilar and Shandelle, and they inspire the characters in my stories. As a matter of fact, Pilar was the main character in my book A Brother’s Love, and Shandelle is the main character in my new release Soul Mates. Justice for Emily was the most difficult book I’ve written, and that was because Emily was the victim of a sadistic, cruel, and abusive husband, who just happened to be the Chief of Police. One of my readers described this books as a “good mystery laced with sex, violence, ghosts and spirits.” The only thing her summary left out was the strength of the two women in this story: Emily and Rachael.

I’ve had fun with all the books I’ve written. I think the fact that I insert real events into my books, things that have actually happened in my family’s lives, is like having a private joke. Knowing that Michael Rogers in Maggie Mae is based on my husband tickles my fancy. I am a very lucky woman!

Although I write romance novels, they always contain a paranormal twist. My latest, Soul Mates, has the added element of time travel accomplished through the magical arts. I imagine my future writings will always contain romance with strong women and men of character, influenced by events that reach beyond what we consider normal, and perhaps seasoned with a little touch of whimsy.

Review

Soul Mates is an incredible journey of the heart. Since time became there have been soul mates; two halves of a whole that are meant for each other. I love this idea. It really speaks to the romantic in me. The characters are the glue of this book. Shandelle is just a good person. She loves unconditionally, she is loyal, and she can’t stand to see anyone unhappy. Ian is just yummy. It is interesting that Ian and Donovan are the same soul, it really makes for any interesting read. Donovan is definitely the swaggering, alpha make type, but let me tell you there is just something play sexy about the brogue!

There is a lot of switching back and forth between the present day and the past, but it is not confusing and the author just a good job of keeping you in the loop. Soul Mates was a very captivating read with the forever kind of love that just turns you into a puddle of goo. There are elements of time travel, paranormal romance, action, adventure, and drama.

Sandy Wolters is a master wordsmith that weaves beautifully crafted tales of romance that make you a firm believer in happily ever after.

Excerpt

Ireland 1323

After the six-month journey from which he had just returned, Donovan O’Brien’s body was demanding sleep, but his mind was too restless so he walked. He had no destination; he was just walking. The night was cool and crisp. Beautiful stars shone brightly in the sky. The night creatures sang their evening lullaby to all those willing to listen. With the beauty and tranquility of the night unnoticed, Donovan, locked in his world of discontent, couldn’t see or feel anything beyond his own torment.

His torment had been his steady companion for years. He felt as if his soul were wrapped in chains and the key that could unlock them was just outside his reach. The desire to free his soul from torment drove him until everyone and everything around him suffered the consequences. He must find it, whatever it was.

He contemplated all of the journeys he had taken since he was a young man—always seeking the elusive object that would bring peace to him but never finding it. The guilt he felt for leaving his clan so often, putting his needs before theirs, overwhelmed him. My father would never have allowed this to happen to his people. Padriag O’Brien had always put the needs of his clan before his own, but what have I done since his death? The castle is in great disrepair, my clan is struggling to survive with no leadership, and I can’t help them. How can I? I can’t even help myself. My life remains empty, and all the searching over the past fifteen years has gotten me nowhere.

He stopped on the path, looked up, and realized he was standing in front of Ainmire’s cottage. Ainmire had been his father’s most valued confidant and friend. Donovan, in turn, had great respect for the Wizard because he had personally witnessed the attempted takeover of the Clan O’Brien’s castle in 1308 by evil, murdering, crop-burning marauders and Ainmire’s part in halting the coup.

Donovan smiled at the memory. There had been hundreds of the marauders. Most of the clan’s guards were out on patrol, trying to kill the enemy before they made it onto the clan’s land. For safety, all those living outside the gates of the castle had been brought into the castle grounds even though the castle had little protection with most of the guards gone. They did, however, have Ainmire.

The damp chill of the evening burrowed its way into Donovan’s thoughts, and he ran his hands up his arms to warm them as he recalled the attack. Ainmire had raised his hands and chanted on the wind, his magical scepter shimmering as sparks of light flew from its tip. The enemies’ horses began falling to the ground and dying where they laid. Men were grabbing their heads as blood spilled from their ears. Donovan shivered. It was a sight that he would not soon forget.

Without warning, the door to the cottage opened on its own. After a moment of indecision, Donovan walked in. While he trusted Ainmire unquestioningly, he was also more than a little fearful of the Wizard and his powers. He knew as he crossed the threshold that he had not come here of his own volition. He had unknowingly been summoned.

Excerpt

“Shit.” She removed her hand, but the after effect still resonated within her. Showered in the sensation, yet oddly chilled without the warmth of his touch, an involuntary shiver ran through her. “Who the hell are you?” she whispered.

“C-Cade. Sir Cade—of Surrey.” His eyes clouded. “Damnation, woman, are ye a witch?”

Despite the seriousness of the moment, she couldn’t help but smile. “A witch? Um, definitely not. I think it’s you.” She braced herself. “Watch.” As soon as she laced her fingers through his, he sucked in a breath.

Her eyelids twitched then closed, and she fell into the depths. The pulse of pleasure, like a bubble of air in a pond, slowly rose and popped at the surface of her mind then rippled. It felt…right.

“Pray thee! Ye must cease this.” Cade slipped from her grasp, his eyes wide.

She gasped at the sudden disconnection. “I didn’t do…whatever that was.”

He took several steps back, his eyes nearly black with…was that fury? “Ye harbor power over my…emotions.”

Oh, that wasn’t fury she imagined, but passion.

“I—” What could she say? It was as if there was an electric current pulsing through him. One that singed the very core of her and made her quake with need. Her heart quickened at the thought of his fingers running over her body, searing her with his touch. She had no doubt it could ignite into something truly magical. Kiss him, a voice inside her urged. Surprised by the thought, she almost followed through. Who was this strange man with electrifying hands?

“Is Surrey a planet?” she blurted. “Are you an alien?” The shock created stupidity, the only explanation for her ignorant remark. “I mean, where is Surrey?”

He tilted his head, a crooked smile conflicting with his furrowed brow. “I dare not ask what an alien is. Or a planet for that matter. But, I assure ye, Surrey is here in England.”

It took a moment for his words to sink in. “Oh, Cade.” She took his hand, but he snatched it away. She eyed the muscles straining against his shirt when he ran his hand over his face. She wanted to rip his friggin’ clothes off. “You’re in New York.”

“York, England?”

Shit, the hope in his eyes was painful. She hated to snuff it out. “No. Upstate New York.” His blank stare made her continue. “Have you heard of Grand Island?” Still nothing. “In between Niagara Falls and Buffalo?”

He slumped to the forest floor. “Hell’s teeth,” he whispered. “‘Tis not a place I have ever heard of.”

“Well, the island is tiny, but surely you’ve heard of Niagara Falls?” Her giggle cut short at the shake of his head. “Oh shit.” She sat beside him. “You’re teasing me, right?”

He raked his fingers through his hair. “I jest not.”

A thought gnawed at the edge of her mind. A weird, outlandish thought. “Okay.” She opened her mouth, clamped it shut, then tried again. “Now let me get this straight. You’re from England.”

“Aye.” He propped his elbows on his knees and cradled his face.

“And you’ve never heard of New York?” Her words sounded wooden, even to her own ears.

“Or the place of falls.” His hair draped over his face. She wanted to brush it aside to see if he was smiling. Messing with her. Anything to ease her racing heart.

Review

Warrior Rogue is a fast paced story that combines aspects from almost every genre. Fashion designer Jennifer Dyhr is in a bind. Her lead actor leaves to star in a video game commercial. Where is she going to find another actor to play a Norse god in Tokyo? Before she knows it a naked, very sexy man ends up on her set. He is perfect for the role, Jen just has to convince him of that. Paz Hadar is not sure what is going on, but the one thing that he is sure of is that Jen is his destiny. She is one of the Seven Sisters and the fate of all the world’s depends on her. Paz is a Drift Lord and his mission is to protect Jen with his life.

Jen’s life becomes something from a sci-fi movie when Paz enters her life. Aliens are out to get her and apparently she has some kind of special powers. Is she dreaming? The only thing that she is certain of is that she wants Paz with every breath in her body. They cannot fight their attraction to one another. Will their relationship distract Paz from his mission?  Rips in the space fabric, special powers, and naked men, oh my! This is a book you will devour in one fell swoop!

Nancy J. Cohen has created a very realistic world with characters that you cannot help but to love. The reader feels like they are running right beside Paz and Jen. This is a race against time, and destiny in the making!

Excerpt

The engine whine surged as the jet lifted. She gripped the counter to steady herself.

He didn’t budge, his cobalt eyes narrowing. “The prophecy says we must be together. It may not be what either of us wants, but there is no denying Fate.”

Oh, but I do want you, buddy. And judging from the bulge in your pants, the feeling is mutual. “What prophecy?”

His mouth quirked up at the edges. “The one that claims you and I have to join forces to fight evil.”

Here he goes with his delusional nonsense again.

She jabbed her finger in the air. “The only reason we’re together is because I offered you a job. We should discuss your duties. They do not include seducing me.”

He lifted an eyebrow. “If that’s true, why did you kiss me back and put your arms around me?”

His knowing smile made her stutter. “T-That was a momentary lapse. It won’t happen again.”

“Won’t it? You felt it, too, the connection between us. I knew it the moment I saw your watch. Your destiny is written there, and it’s linked to mine.”

1816 Candles by Amanda Brice Cover Reveal

Author Spotlight

Amanda headshotAs a little girl, Amanda Brice dreamed of being either a ballerina or the author of a mystery series featuring a cool crime-solving chick named Nancy Flew, but her father urged her to “do something practical,” so she went to law school and spent her days writing briefs and pleadings instead of fiction.

But dance and writing have remained a part of her life. Amanda was a member of the ballroom dance team at Duke University, and continues this interest by her obsession with Dancing with the Stars, so it was only natural for her to set a teen mystery series at a dance school.

Amanda is the President of Washington Romance Writers, and is a two-time finalist for Romance Writers of America’s prestigious Golden Heart® Award. She blogs once a month or so with the Ruby-Slippered Sisterhood. She is also a popular conference presenter, speaking on basic copyright and trademark law for writers.

In her spare time, Amanda enjoys dancing, reading, cooking, traveling, and obsessing over whether Duke will beat Carolina in basketball. Go Devils!
